5 Dead in Truck Accident in Silay City, Negros Occidental
Five people dead after the truck they were riding crashed on the way home from a tree planting activity in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
On early Friday morning, June 27, 2025, a heartbreaking road accident in Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City, Negros Occidental, left five people dead and many others injured.
The incident involved a mini dump truck carrying 24 city hall employees who were on their way to join a tree-planting activity. While driving through Hacienda San Juan Paho, the truck suddenly lost control due to faulty brakes and flipped on its side.

Among the fatalities were Alexander Balili, the city’s head plumber; his secretary, the only female passenger who died; Rafael Jardiolin Jr.; Eldie Naguita; and one unidentified individual.
According to officials, the truck is government-owned and was used to transport the employees for the official event.
Out of the 24 people on board, seven sustained serious injuries while 13 others were treated for minor wounds. The injured were quickly brought to the provincial hospital for medical attention.

The Silay City Police and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) responded to the scene and confirmed the incident. Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine if the vehicle had prior mechanical issues or if there was any negligence involved.
City Engineer’s Office head Edna Manayon verified that the passengers were employees under various city departments. She also confirmed that the tree planting activity was part of their scheduled duties for the day.
As the investigation continues, families of the victims and the local community are grieving the unexpected loss. The incident has also raised questions about the condition and safety of government service vehicles used for official activities.
Officials are expected to release further findings in the coming days.
