Erwin Tulfo Clarifies Previous Statement About Refiling Impeachment

Here’s what Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo said regarding the refiling of the impeachment trial.

Incoming Senator Erwin Tulfo made clarifications on his previous statement regarding VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment complaint in the 20th Congress.

As the 19th Congress expires, the incoming senators will assume office at 12 noon on June 30. One of them is Senator Erwin Tulfo, who previously aired his stance regarding the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a previous article, Tulfo expressed that the impeachment trial must proceed. This will only yield either of the two verdicts: convicted or acquitted. This depends on the proof she will be presenting.

“Personally, why not? Kung the VP is not guilty then so be it, let’s dismiss the case…Pero kung the evidence will really ika nga, ididiin siya doon, then we don’t have a choice,” he said.

On Thursday, he also said, “I think that the House will really refile it. That’s what I heard from my colleagues.”

However, on Friday, he made changes in his statement, and stated that it’s just a speculation, citing a House prosecutor who said that there was no such plan. He said, “Usap-usapan na definitely ibabalik pero yung timing hindi.”

He clarified that what he said was not official, especially if the information did not come from house leadership or part of the prosecution. As for him, he accordingly has no right to issue a statement.

“Unless the House leadership will [sic] make a statement, Speaker Romualdez, at mga leaders at mga political party leaders, then puro speculation, we’ll just be speculating,” he said and shared that the colleagues he were referring in his previous statement were neither house leaders nor part of the prosecution panel.
