The impeachment trial of VP Sara Duterte is still alive, and her 16 lawyers are ready to defend her in this trial.
The Senate has voted to return to the House of Representatives the impeachment complaint of Vice President Sara Duterte. President officer Chiz Escudero clarified that this does not mean the trial has been terminated. It is still alive, and Duterte is expected to respond to the summons issued to her.
As reported, Duterte is accused of six allegations:
- Conspiracy to Assassinate President Marcos, First Lady, and Speaker Romualdez
- Malversation of P612.5 Million in Confidential Funds
- Bribery and Corruption in DepEd
- Unexplained Wealth and Failure to Disclose Assets
- Involvement in Extrajudicial Killings (Davao Death Squad)
- Destabilization, Insurrection, and Public Disorder
The legal team defending the vice president in this trial is 16 lawyers, with Sigfrid Fortun as the lead. One of the most prominent law firms in the country will represent Duterte as they have already confirmed their appearance before the Senate, the impeachment court, on Monday.

Sigfrid Fortun is a veteran in the field who served to defend former President Joseph Estrada during his impeachment trial from December 2000 to January 2001. He has also defended Senator-elect Panfilo Lacson in the Kuratong Baleleng case and represented Andal Ampatuan Sr., his son Andal Jr., and 22 other defendants in the Maguindanao case.
