Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao Oriental, May 27, 2025
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental today, May 27, 2025. Here are the details.
Following the 4.5 magnitude quake in Batanes a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Davao Oriental and it has a magnitude of 4.3.
The earthquake that struck Davao Oriental, May 27, 2025, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 06.43°North, 126.21°East – 029 km South 31° East of Governor Generoso. It had a depth of focus of 061 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, the following intensities were felt in these areas:
Intensity I
- Malalag and Padada, DAVAO DEL SUR
- CITY OF DIGOS
- Don Marcelino and Malita , DAVAO OCCIDENTAL
- City of Mati, DAVAO ORIENTAL
Intensity II
- San Isidro, Banaybanay, and Lupon, DAVAO ORIENTAL
Intensity III
- Governor Generoso, DAVAO ORIENTAL
