Statement of Malacañang on Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ Call for Courtesy Resignations among Cabinet Secretaries
Malacañang assured that Philippine President Bongbong Marcos will make a quick decision on the courtesy resignations of the Cabinet secretaries.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos unexpectedly called for a courtesy resignation among his Cabinet secretaries yesterday, May 22. According to the Chief Executive, he wants to recalibrate his administration following the results of the 2025 Elections.

Pres. Marcos said the Filipino people have spoken and the government has to act on it and align itself on the expectations of the people. There is now a long list of Cabinet secretaries who have resigned after the resignation call of Marcos Jr.
Malacañang previously claimed that the courtesy resignation call is an opportunity for the Cabinet secretaries to prove their place in the administration of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro, lazy and corrupt government officials have no place in the Marcos administration.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero expressed support on the recalibration move of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Department of Education secretary Sonny Angara resigned from being the DepEd chief and thanked Marcos Jr. for the opportunity to lead the education department.

Recently, amid the courtesy resignation of most of the Cabinet secretaries of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Malacañang assured the Filipinos that the President will act on the matter swiftly. Based on a report on GMA News, Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro said she cannot specify the timeline but the President himself wants it done fast.
“Hindi ko masasabi yung timeline pero ang sabi nga ng Pangulo gusto niya mabilis. So, dapat mabilisan din ito. Makakaasa sila na mas mabilis ang pagde-decide patungkol dito,” Castro said.

Based on the report, the Malacañang press officer said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is considering “performance” and the “absence of corruption” in making a decision on who will stay as Cabinet officials.
“Unang-una, siyempre, ayaw ng mabagal ng Pangulo. Yan ang nireklamo niya, ayaw niya maging mabagal ang trabaho ng administration… So performance, saka dapat maging malinis ang trabaho ng mga Gabinete, dapat walang korap,” the Palace official said.
Yesterday, in a speech about the newly-enacted laws, Pres. Bongbong Marcos joked about his Cabinet secretaries.
