LGBT Member Receives Cash Reward After Undergoing Circumcision

An LGBT member received a cash reward of P10, 000 after undergoing a circumcision procedure in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Circumcision is a medical procedure where the foreskin, the skin covering the tip of the penis is surgically removed. This is usually done for cultural, religious, or health reasons. The procedure can be done on newborn babies, children, or adults.

Healing time depends on the person’s age and overall health. In babies, it usually takes about a week. For older individuals, it might take longer, and some discomfort, swelling, or minor bleeding can occur during recovery.

Recently, Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan shared photos of an LBGT member who joined a free circumcision program. The post quickly went viral online and garnered various reactions from the online community.

A 34-year-old member of the LGBTQ community from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu joined the city’s free circumcision program, known as ā€œOperation Tuli.ā€ The individual, who chose to go by the name Miya, took part in the initiative on Thursday (May 22, 2025) and received a P10,000 cash incentive from the local government.

The program encourages adults who have not yet undergone circumcision to take advantage of the free medical service. It aims to promote better hygiene and overall health, while also breaking stigma around the procedure for older individuals.

Miya, a local resident of Mactan, accepted the challenge despite initial hesitation. Understanding the potential health benefits of the procedure, he decided to go through with it and successfully completed the process.

The operation was performed by Dr. Gala and was supported by city officials, including SK Federation President Orlan ā€œOJā€ Chan-Carungay, who personally handed over the P10,000 reward.
