Young Boy Dies After Circumcision at Local Clinic in Tondo, Manila
A young boy in Tondo, Manila has tragically lost his life after undergoing circumcision at a local clinic.
According to his mother, Marjorie San Agustin, she found out through a friend’s social media post that a clinic in Tondo was offering circumcision services. After confirming the fee and setting an appointment, she brought her son to the clinic on the same day.
Marjorie even took a video of her son during the procedure, and when she asked if it hurt, Nathan said it didn’t.
“Ang ginawa ko po, sinilip ko po ‘yung anak ko dun sa may kwarto tapos vinideohan ko pa po, tapos tinanong ko pa po ‘yung anak ko kung masakit sabi po niya hindi daw po. Bumalik na po ako sa labas, umupo na po ako,” Marjorie said.
However, just minutes later, the doctor and an assistant called her back into the room. They told her that Nathan was shaking and asked her to hold him. Marjorie, who was becoming increasingly worried, asked if what was happening was normal.
The staff said that seizures were normal and told her not to worry. Her fear grew when she saw that her son was turning blue and struggling to breathe. Instead of rushing Nathan to the hospital, the clinic staff asked her to lay him on the side of the bed.
“Tapos tinanong ko po kung normal lang daw po ‘yun kasi natataranta na po ako eh, ang sabi po ng doctor at assistant, normal lang daw po ang nagsi-seizure, normal lang daw po ‘yun,” she explained.
Nathan was already resisting strongly and appeared to be in great distress. Marjorie eventually ran outside to get help. When they arrived at the hospital, Nathan had no heartbeat.
The family has reported the incident to the Manila Police District and also sought help from the National Bureau of Investigation. Marjorie is demanding justice and accountability from the doctor involved.
Marjorie described Nathan as a smart, hardworking, and cheerful boy who loved to dance. He was supposed to enter Grade 4 this coming school year.
Nathan’s body is now at home as the family mourns. An autopsy is being arranged to determine the cause of death and possibly file a case against the doctor.
“Hustisya po ‘yan para sa anak ko, hindi ko po matatanggap na, ganun-ganun lang. Hindi ko po alam kung bakit namatay ‘yung anak ko. Pinatuli ko lang ‘yan eh, hindi ko alam, hindi ko alam, gusto ko hustisya. Kung ano ‘yung kinamatay ng anak ko.” she added.
