Newly-Elect Sen. Ping Lacson Speaks on Rumored Meeting w/ VP Sara Duterte
PING LACSON – The newly-elected Senator reacted to rumors that he met with Vice President Sara Duterte amid her looming impeachment trial.
Half of the winning senators in the 2025 Elections that were proclaimed by COMELEC (Commission on Elections) last Saturday were bets of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago. Pres. Bongbong Marcos fervently campaigned for the candidates endorsed by the grand alliance.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos even called the Alyansa bets his “dream team”. He stressed that all the senatorial candidates endorsed by the grand alliance have experience in public service. Here are the senatorial bets of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago:
- Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos
- Sen. Francis Tolentino
- Sen. Pia Cayetano
- former Sen. Manny Pacquiao
- Makati City Mayor Abby Binay
- Sen. Lito Lapid
- former Senator Ping Lacson
- Sen. Ramon ”Bong” Revilla Jr.
- Deputy Speaker Camille Villar
- former Senator Vicente Sotto III
- former Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo

Presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos was part of the Alyansa but decided to leave the team following the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to her, she cannot accept what was done to the former President.

Duterte was arrested last March 11 and was sent to The Hague, Netherlands. He is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) where he is faced with an allegation of crime against humanity due to his administration’s war on drugs. The presidential sister led a Senate investigation on Duterte’s arrest.
Amid the results of the 2025 Senatorial Race wherein not all bets of the grand alliance won a seat in the Senate, Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured that their work and mission continue. Malacañang also repeatedly stressed that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is not in the hands of the president but the Senate.

Sen. Ping Lacson is one of the Alyansa bets who made it to the Top 12. He ranked 7th with 15,106,111 votes. However, recently, his name is on the rumors that he met with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid her looming impeachment trial.

Based on a report on GMA News, Sen. Ping Lacson denied the rumors that he had a meeting with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He tagged the rumor as “outright malicious”.
“I vehemently deny and dismiss such rumor as absolutely false and outright malicious for one simple reason only: as an elected senator who is a potential senator-judge in the impeachment trial involving the Vice President should the said trial cross over to the 20th Congress, it is the height of impropriety to meet with her, being a respondent in the said impeachment case already transmitted to the Senate,” Sen. Ping Lacson said.
The returning Senator further explained that in situations where there are no issues surrounding the Vice President with the Senate being a party, newly-elected senators or congressmen usually pay a courtesy call on the Vice President. Based on the report, Lacson recalled visiting then-Vice Pres. Leni Robredo after he won his 3rd Senate term in 2016.
Following the 2025 Midterm polls, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte admitted that she’s disappointed by the results of the 2025 Elections.
