A half-Pinay model is the person behind this viral Bahay Kubo Scrunchie
Netizens once again talked about the Bahay Kubo scrunchie which is worth P2,000 as this topic resurfaced on social media.
Christina Nadin is the person behind the brand Bahay Kubo. She is a half-Filipina model and influencer who launched her apparel brand last year. She based her label on the time she spent in the Philippines growing up with her mother.
Preview.ph released an article about this in 2024 saying that the scrunchi is made out of 100% mulberry silk and has a diameter of 5.5 inches. The brand claimed that the scrunchie can aid in reducing frizz and breakage.

It also said that one dollar from every sale is donated to Lokal Lab, a non-government organization based in Siargao. According to the brand’s Instagram page, the funds from this product will be allotted to help build an Artistic Weaving Center that aims to train local weavers and provide them with livelihood opportunities.
This article resurfaced on social media and netizens shared their reactions to this. Although when this was launched, some Filipinos expressed support and eagerness to grab their Bahay Kubo scrunchie, it also received negative reactions.

On Reddit, netizens slammed that P2,000 for a Bahay Kubo scrunchie is too much. A normal scrunchie in the Philippines can be as expensive as a hundred pesos. This was the reason why netizens said that the brand of the Fil-Am model was overpricing that simple hair accessory.
Some netizens also said that it does not make sense that Christina Nadin is using Filipino culture for a luxury match. For them, it does not match the concept of the real Bahay Kubo, as it is being used to sell an expensive item.
“Maraming gumagamit ng excuse na “hindi ikaw ang target market” pero girl, sobrang misaligned ng brand name a “bahay kubo” for a luxury brand,” a netizen on Reddit said.

Here are some comments from netizens who slammed this brand.
