PAGASA Says ITCZ and Easterlies to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the intertropical convergence zone will bring rains over parts of the country.  

On Thursday (May 15, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The ITCZ and easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.  

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja reported that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will be affecting Mindanao while the easterlies will affect the rest of the country.

“From morning to noon, expect cloudy skies. While cloudy skies, frequent rains, and thunderstorms may be seen in the afternoon and evening. It will last for an hour or two,” said Estareja.  

The intertropical convergence zone will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Palawan.  

Before noon, there are chances of rain in Central Visayas. Negros Island Region and the rest of the Visayas have a chance of scattered rain from afternoon to evening,” Estareja added.

Rains are also expected over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Region, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.  

The easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. It will also bring hot weather to most parts of the country.  

A low-pressure area may form inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility within the next four days.

The LPA may move upward and bring rains in Eastern Visayas and Caraga region. And there may be a scenario that it will cross Visayas and Mimaropa,” he explained.  

The weather agency has warned the public for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.  

The coastal water condition over Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA.
