Violence and tension mar the Halalan 2025, and here are the reported incidents that occurred during this time.
Halalan 2025, or the midterm elections, has just concluded. The votes are in, and the partial and unofficial results can now be viewed in a portal. Before the announcement of the winners, the hours it took included unnecessary and dangerous incidents, which included shootings and other anomalies in various parts of the country.
Two were killed and several were injured in the Silay City shooting, which occurred early Monday morning. The alleged suspect has surrendered in the afternoon, but the investigation is still ongoing for the other alleged suspects of the incident.
In Basilan, three people’s lives were claimed in a predawn boat clash near Hadji Muhtamad town on Monday. This happened hours ahead of the voting. In Lanao Del Sur, unidentified gunmen killed a candidate and his brother on Monday morning.
In Buluan town, Maguindanao del Sur, four armed men were arrested, and five armed men were arrested in Eastern Samar at a checkpoint.
President Bongbong Marcos also experienced glitches in the automated counting machine when he cast his vote at San Mariano Marcos Memorial Elementary School in Barangay Valdez, Batac City, Ilocos Norte. Senatorial hopeful Ping Lacson also experienced the same glitch in Imus, Cavite.
Meanwhile, despite these incidents that have been reported while the voting was being held in different parts of the country, Philippine National Police chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil said that the midterm election is “generally peaceful.”
“Very peaceful. Tuluy-tuloy yung pulis natin, tuluy-tuloy yung huli. Sabi ko nga, lahat ng manggugulo tinatanggal namin and we want arrests. I want more arrests. Walang pwedeng gumulo sa eleksyon,” Marbil said and added that all PNP units were ordered to secure the canvassing of votes, giving more importance to the time between 6 PM and midnight, considered as the critical hours.
