Freelancer Shares Frustration Over Proposed Tax on Digital Workers

Freelancer Expresses Concerns Over Proposed Tax on Digital Workers

A female freelancer has expressed her thoughts and frustration about the planned tax for digital workers like herself.

Recently, Socially Myra – WFH life, a Facebook content creator, shared the challenges many freelancers face every day and why the idea of additional taxes feels unfair to them. The post elicited comments from the internet users.

Myra said that freelancers often work without the benefits that regular employees enjoy. They don’t receive a 13th-month pay, have no paid leaves, and are not covered by health insurance or government-mandated protections.

Their jobs are unstable, and contracts can suddenly end without warning. There are even times when clients disappear without paying, leaving freelancers without income and with no one to turn to for help.

The freelancer pointed out the lack of security and support in the freelance world. She questioned why the government would impose more taxes on people who are already struggling to make a living without any guaranteed income.

While they work hard and try to earn legally through online platforms, freelancers feel that they are now being targeted instead of supported.

The digital worker also raised concerns about how the taxes collected might be used, expressing doubts that the money would actually benefit those who need it. For her, the focus should be on chasing down large-scale tax evaders rather than small, independent workers who already deal with uncertainty every day.

Many people in the freelancing community who feel the same frustration. It raised concern about fair treatment, financial struggles, and the need for better understanding of the challenges that digital workers face in today’s economy.

“And now you want to tax us?

We don’t get 13th month pay.

We don’t have health benefits, paid leaves, or government-mandated protections.

People, we have no job security.

Our contracts can end overnight, no warning, no severance.

We’re not even guaranteed to be paid.

Really.

Clients can ghost us in the middle of a project. Some disappear right before the payment. And when that happens, we don’t get support.

Tapos ano? ibibigay bilang ayuda sa piling-pili at iilan lamang.

This government’s inefficiency

and now it wants to leech off the few Filipinos who found a legitimate way to earn through freelancing.

Chase those big time tax evaders. Sila na lang.

Dahil kami walang kasiguraduhan kung bukas o makalawa eh may project at client pa
