Sen. Imee Marcos Wants Some Gov’t Officials Investigated by Ombudsman over Duterte’s Arrest
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator submitted to the Ombudsman the findings of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee over Duterte’s arrest.
The Philippine government is currently in a political turmoil following the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The unexpected turn of events last March 11 also created a gap between the Dutertes and the Marcoses as well as their supporters.

Despite the feud between Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Pres. Bongbong Marcos as well as the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s friendship remains. The Senator even led the investigation of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the arrest of the former President.
Sen. Marcos left the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago following the first Senate hearing on Duterte’s arrest. She believes there was no due process in the arrest of the former President. Three (3) Senate hearings were conducted over the matter.

Several government officials appeared at the Senate hearing over former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s arrest. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also appeared via online on the first Senate hearing. She also said that she is willing to attend the hearing when she was already back in the Philippines.

Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos submitted the findings of the Senate hearing to the Ombudsman. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senator suggested the Ombudsman to investigate the following government officials:
- Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla
- Interior Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla
- PNP chief Police Gen. Rommel Marbil
- CIDG chief Police Gen. Nicolas Torre III
- Special Envoy for Transnational Crimes Markus Lacanilao
According to the report, Sen. Imee Marcos requested the Ombudsman to probe and sanction the government officials who committed violations against the law over Duterte’s arrest and the transfer of his custody to the International Criminal Court.
“We expect the Ombudsman to proceed with the investigation kasi nga hinaharang ito sa Senado. Nahihirapan kami na kumuha ng testigo. I believe the Ombudsman is unbiased, walang takot na parusahan ‘yung karapat-dapat na parusahan,” the Senator said.
The arrest of former Pres. Duterte earned the government and the President criticisms and bashing. Amid the issue, Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that she and Pres. Bongbong Marcos never fought.
