Shamcey Supsup-Lee Rebukes Party-mate Ian Sia Over Inappropriate Joke
SHAMCEY SUPSUP – Beauty queen-turned-politician Shamcey Supsup-Lee has called out her Pasig party-mate Ian Sia for making a lewd joke during their campaign kickoff event, expressing her strong disapproval of the remark.
Shamcey Supsup-Lee has publicly reprimanded her fellow party-mate, Pasig congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia, for making an inappropriate joke that disrespected women, particularly single mothers, during their team’s campaign kickoff event.
In a statement released on Friday night, Supsup expressed her displeasure, stating that she had personally addressed the issue with Sia, a lawyer by profession. She emphasized that she does not condone such crude comments, whether made in jest or in earnest. Supsup, who was the third runner-up in the 2011 Miss Universe competition and former national director of Miss Universe Philippines, made it clear on her social media pages that as both a woman and a mother, she would not tolerate remarks that diminish or disrespect women.

“I’ve spoken to Atty. lan and shared my thoughts with him directly. I believe we all have moments to learn from, and I hope this becomes one of them,” Supsup said.
The controversy stemmed from a video recorded on March 28, where Sia made a shocking comment about single mothers who are still ovulating, suggesting that they could have a chance at being with him once a year. This remark quickly gained backlash from the public for its misogynistic tone and insensitivity towards women, especially those who are solo parents.
Supsup, who is running for councilor in Pasig City’s first district, clarified that she joined the opposition party led by mayoralty candidate Sarah Discaya because of their shared commitment to serving the people of Pasig, particularly in areas such as legal aid, senior support, healthcare, and aid for solo parents.
“I will always stand for what is right, even when it’s not easy,” Supsup declared, reaffirming her dedication to the people of Pasig and her belief in the leadership that the city deserves.

Sia, who is running for congress against incumbent Rep. Roman Romulo, has yet to publicly respond to the criticism. Meanwhile, Discaya’s candidacy is trailing behind the popular incumbent Mayor Vico Sotto, who is seeking a third term.
