NBI Arrest Man After Pawning Sold Land in Quezon

FRAUD – Authorities arrested a man involved in a fraudulent land-pawning scheme during an entrapment operation in Pagbilao, Quezon.

Fraud is when a person tricks or lies to someone else to take their money, property, or other valuable things. It is done in a dishonest way, often by making false promises or pretending to be someone they are not.

People commit fraud to benefit themselves while causing harm to others. Scammers often appear friendly and trustworthy to gain a person’s confidence before taking advantage of them.

Fraud

People need to be careful when dealing with financial matters, signing contracts, or making large payments. It is always a good idea to double-check information, verify the identity of the person you are dealing with, and avoid sharing personal details with strangers.

Fraud is illegal, and those caught committing it can face serious punishment, including jail time and heavy fines.

Recently, the National Bureau of Investigation-Lucena District Office (NBI-LUCDO) arrested a man along with his live-in partner, for tricking their victim into accepting three pieces of land as collateral for a loan amounting to P10 million.

However, an investigation later revealed that these properties had already been sold to a company in December 2022 and June 2024.

The scheme was discovered when the suspect attempted to ask for an additional P30,000 from the victim. Authorities immediately acted, setting up an entrapment operation. On March 27, the suspect was caught red-handed as he accepted the marked money at the victim’s home in Barangay Talipan.

Meanwhile, his live-in partner and another accomplice, who reportedly helped facilitate the fake transaction, are still being tracked down by authorities.

The suspect is now facing estafa charges for deceiving the victim and attempting to collect money based on false claims. Investigators continue to search for the remaining individuals involved.
