Authorities Arrest 3 Jewelry Thieves After Bragging on Social Media

Three jewelry thieves were arrested in Beverly Hills, California after bragging about the crime on Instagram.

Three men who stole $2.6 million worth of jewelry are now behind bars after one of them proudly posted about the crime on Instagram.

Using hammers and crowbars, Ladell Tharpe, Jimmy Lee Vernon, and Deshon Bell broke into a high-end jewelry store in 2022. They took necklaces, bracelets, and luxury watches worth around 148 million pesos.

However, their luck quickly ran out. One of the thieves accidentally dropped his cell phone at the crime scene, which helped investigators track them down. To make matters worse for them, Tharpe posted pictures of large stacks of cash on his Instagram account with the caption “Robbery Gang.” This made it even easier for authorities to connect them to the crime.

The three men faced different prison sentences. Bell was sentenced to one year in jail, while Vernon received six years and eight months after admitting to the robbery. Just this Monday, Tharpe was sentenced to seven years in federal prison after confessing to the crime.

Authorities emphasized that crimes like these will not be tolerated. They warned that anyone who targets small businesses in Los Angeles County will face serious consequences.

“Brazen criminal action that directly targets our small businesses in Los Angeles County will not be tolerated,” said Acting United States Attorney Joseph McNally.

The incident reminds the public that crime does not pay, and boasting about illegal activities online will only speed up the arrest. Instead of enjoying their stolen riches, these three men now have to serve time behind bars.
