Elderly Couple Dies After Drinking Rat Poison Believing It Was Coffee
An elderly couple was found dead in their home after accidentally consuming rat poison, believing it was coffee.
An elderly couple was found dead in their home in Brgy. Progreso, San Fernando, Masbate, after mistaking rat poison for coffee. The victims were identified as Kokoy, 80, a farmer, and his wife, Dinda, 79.
According to reports, their son, Sam, discovered their lifeless bodies while fetching water for them. He found his mother lying on the bed and his father seated on a chair inside their home. Concerned, he immediately called for help.
Authorities investigated the scene and found no signs of foul play. During the search, they recovered a sachet of rat poison labeled ‘Surekill’ placed next to a pack of 3-in-1 coffee and two cups of brewed coffee.
The police believe that due to their old age, the couple mistakenly used the rat poison instead of coffee, resulting in their tragic deaths.
Laboratory tests confirmed that the coffee they drank contained harmful chemicals. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder to be extra cautious when handling household items, especially those that could be mistaken for food or drinks.
