Maureen Larrazabal went through tough times in her life
Pepito Manaloto actress Maureen Larrazabal recalled the time when she went blind for two years because of contact lens misuse.
Maureen has been in the industry for many years already. From having her sultry image, she was able to transition to comedy. She is now part of the long-running sitcom led by Kapuso comedy genius Michael V.
In a recent interview on the Kapuso show of Mikee Quintos, Maureen shared the hard times she went through in her life.

Despite her success in the entertainment industry, she had a lot of difficult times in her life but fortunately, she was able to surpass these challenging moments.
Maureen was asked how she found the humor that she is sharing now with other people. She said that she is not a dramatic person in real life. The actress tends to make things lighter.
“Alam mo sa dami ng pinagdaanan ko, ‘pag kinwento ko, maiiyak ka,” Maureen shared. Then, she recalled the toughest times she went through.
Maureen revealed that at a young age, she left her home and lived in a church. Her physical being also faced challenges as she experienced injuries. “Nabalian ako ng likod. Totoo, pilay ako ah. Nabulag ako for two years,” she shared.
Despite these tough times, Maureen stayed strong. She thought that if she cried about this, nothing would happen in her life. If she has a problem, her immediate action is to do something about it and not cry.
The actress elaborates on the time when she went blind. She revealed that she had a pseudomonas infection after falling asleep while still wearing her contact lenses.
“Bulag ako, two years. Natulog ako nang may contact lens, tapos tumitigas ‘yun ‘di ba kapag hindi ka nag-drops. Na-slit open ko ‘yung cornea, pinasukan ng pseudomonas, so pumasok siya sa mata. Pagpasok sa mata ko, few hours lang, that bacteria will melt your eye in 24 hours, ganon siya katindi,” she shared.

Maureen Larrazabal said that this happened when she was in Hong Kong. However, the corneal transplant just happened when she went back to the Philippines.
In an interview in 2024 with Manila Bulletin, Maureen sought immediate medical attention in a Hong Kong hospital after feeling unbearable pain in her eyes. However, due to the language barrier, it was difficult for her to communicate.
“Napakahirap talaga mag communicate sa kanila, and one thing that really registered was nung sinabi nila na go home blind,” the actress said.
Maureen is just thankful to GMA for supporting her. While dealing with her blindness, the network continued to give her work.
