PNP Officer Remembers Watch Given by Former President Duterte

A Philippine National Police PNP officer shared a sentimental story about a wristwatch given to him by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Recently, Nim Rod, a Facebook user, shared a remember the wristwatch given by Former President Duterte to him way back in 2017. The post garnered various reactions from the netizens.

The cop recalled that he still has the watch he received from Duterte during a send-off ceremony in 2017. Now, he understands why the former president chose to give them a watch instead of any other item.

It was not the first time Duterte had given away a watch. Back in 2019, he also handed his personal Oris watch to a Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet, showing his unique way of expressing appreciation.

The gesture sparked comparisons between Duterte and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. Reports surfaced that a cadet had once asked Marcos for his watch, but he refused to give it away.

The post came shortly after news broke that the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) had received the official copy of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Duterte.

The warrant dated March 11, 2025, is related to alleged crimes against humanity due to the former president’s controversial war on drugs.

According to a 2017 year-end report from Duterte’s administration, a total of 20,322 drug suspects were reportedly killed in the country from July 2016 to November 2017. The ongoing legal battle has drawn international attention, adding another chapter to the former president’s legacy.

Despite the controversy, some supporters continue to express admiration for Duterte’s leadership and personal gestures, like giving watches to those he valued.
