Vatican Issues Update on Condition of Pope Francis amid Hospitalization

POPE FRANCIS – The 88-year-old Roman Pontiff suffered two (2) new episodes of respiratory attack amid his hospital confinement.

The Pope is confined in a hospital in Gemelli in Rome, Italy for more than two (2) weeks now. The previous update from the Pope showed an improving condition and his non-invasive medical ventilation was even removed but he recently had two (2) new episodes of respiratory attack.

The head of the Catholic church is confined in a special papal suite in Gemelli hospital in Rome. He had bronchitis that developed into double pneumonia. When he was younger, he had a part of his lungs removed which make his recovery now harder.

Pope Francis even believed that he might “not make it this time” as he battles pneumonia. He told two (2) people close to him that his death might be near. Wake and funeral preparations for the Roman Pontiff have started in Vatican in case of his possible demise.

Meanwhile, there were also instances when the clinical condition of the Pope showed slight improvements. His fever was gone and his clinical condition stabilized. However, his doctors keep the prognosis as “guarded” because his condition shows a complex picture.

Recently, following an update that the clinical condition of Pope Francis has stabilized, an unfortunate update about the Roman Pontiff was released. Based on a post on Vatican News, the Holy See Press Office said in a statement that the Pope has suffered two (2) new episodes of respiratory attack due to a “significant accumulation of endobronchial mucus and consequent bronchospasm”.

The Pope had to undergo two (2) bronchoscopies to clear his airways. Based on the statement released, large secretions were removed from the Roman Pontiff. Meanwhile, based on the post, he remains “alert, oriented and cooperative at all times”.

Currently, Pope Francis is back on a non-invasive medical ventilation. His prognosis remain “guarded”.
