Here’s what Vice Ganda said as he recalled the event that happened 39 years ago.
On Tuesday, the 39th EDSA People Power anniversary was commemorated by thousands of people and Vice Ganda has this to say about it.
The EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary is no longer considered a special non-working holiday through Proclamation No. 727 signed October 2024. Through the proclamation, it was declared a special working day, and according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), this day should be treated as a regular working day in terms of wage computation.

There has been a widespread that followed after the proclamation was issued and in its 39th anniversary, several Philippine schools deny this memory of the EDSA people power revolt fade away.
In a previous article, Malacañang defended Philippine President Bongbong Marcos for not declaring it as a non-working day. As much as we all know, 39 years ago, the unity among people against the late former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the current president’s father, prevailed.
He ruled the country as a dictator for 20 years ago but on February 25, 1986, the uprising ousted Bongbong’s father and installed Corazon Aquino as president. This also marked the democracy of the country, the freedom the dictator president had denied the people for two decades.

In a recent episode of It’s Showtime, Vice Ganda remembered this historical event. The superstar comedian reminded people of the bloodless revolt that happened years ago which paved the way for the freedom people have until now.
“Mapayapang paraan ng pakikibaka,” he stressed based on the video. He then went on to discuss how the people peacefully got back the power and freedom from the leader who declared Martial Law. It was the time when people gathered and collectively chose to stand up for the country as enough was enough.
This moment changed the trajectory of our history.
