Woman Who Allegedly Maltreated Her 8-Year-Old Son Faces Charges
A woman was caught on camera while allegedly maltreating her eight-year-old son in Rodriguez, Rizal.
On Tuesday (February 18, 2025), a disturbing video of a young boy being scolded, hit, and choked by his mother after he had gone missing for most of the day quickly circulated on social media.
According to the Rodriguez Police Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Sabulao, the boy ran away after being asked by his mother to buy cigarettes. Instead of returning home, he spent the day using the money to buy food and a toy.
“Naglayas daw itong bata. Inutusan na bibili ng sigarilyo at simula umaga hindi na nga bumalik ‘yung bata. Nahanap nung kanyang magulang bandang alas singko ng hapon,” Sabulao said.
The mother, frustrated after hours of searching, found her son later in the afternoon but became overwhelmed with anger and exhaustion.
In the video, the mother can be seen hitting and choking the boy. The child’s grandmother also joined, hitting him with a slipper and pinching him. The mother explained that she didn’t intend to harm her son, claiming her actions were out of frustration and fatigue.
The mother said she only wanted to teach her child a lesson for his mistake. A neighbor, who recorded the incident, stated that this was not the first time the boy had been physically punished and noted that the child often had visible bruises.
“Hindi siya malakas, ‘yung pag ganon ko po sa anak ko, mahina lang po dahil lambot na lambot na rin po ako. Kung iyan po ay bugbog or napasama, hindi po ‘yan takbo nang takbo. Bilang isang ina, para malaman din ng anak ko kung ano ang mali niya,” the mother explained.

Out of concern, the video was shared online, which quickly gained public attention. The mother has since apologized to her son and called on the person who posted the video to delete it, saying they didn’t understand the full context of the situation.
The police have confirmed that the boy will be placed under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) while charges of physical abuse will be filed against the mother.
Authorities reminded parents to discipline their children calmly and constructively to prevent emotional and physical harm.
