Riding-in-Tandem Caught on Camera Snatching 17-Year-Old Student’s Mobile Phone Inside Subdivision
RIDING-IN TANDEM – A 17-year-old student fell victim to a cellphone-snatching incident inside a subdivision in Taytay, Rizal.
On Tuesday night (January 14, 2025), a CCTV footage captured a cellphone-snatching incident inside a subdivision involving a student and a riding-in-tandem.
According to the victim’s mother, Ma. Teresa Asuncion, she learned about the incident when her daughter returned home in tears. The student explained that she was on her way home after a school project defense.
“Pagdating po niya galing school, dito sa pintuan umiyak na po siya humagulgol. Akala ko kung anong nangyari kung siya ay nabastos ba or ano, tapos bigla niyang sinabi na nahablot ‘yung cellphone niya,” Asuncion said.
While checking the time on her phone, two suspects riding a motorcycle quickly snatched it and sped off.
Eyewitness Eddie Santua, who was nearby during the incident, noticed the suspects’ motorcycle swerving as they fled. He shared that he initially didn’t realize what had happened until seeing the distressed victim.
The stolen cellphone, valued at P5,000, contained important school documents, making the loss even more huge to the student.
Following the incident, the subdivision’s homeowners association, led by acting president Reggie Mella, took immediate action to address security concerns. They decided to install a gate at the subdivision’s entrance, as it is open to neighboring areas.
Plans to increase CCTV cameras and conduct regular patrols were also put in place.
The victim’s mother reported the crime to the barangay officials. Peacekeeper Henry Bernardez confirmed that the incident had been recorded in the blotter and assured that efforts to identify and locate the suspects are ongoing.
“Naireport po sa amin. Na-blotter po namin ang pangyayari. Patuloy po naming tinutunton ‘yung mga suspek para matulungan namin ‘yung nakuhanan ng cellphone,” Sitio Bato-Bato Dos peacekeeper Henry Bernardez said.
