Man Faces Charges After Escaping Checkpoint During Oplan Sita Operation

A man was caught with firearm, drugs and fake money after trying to escape a police checkpoint during an Oplan Sita operation.

Last Friday (January 3, 2025), a 31-year-old man found himself in hot water after fleeing a police checkpoint during an Oplan Sita operation in Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches, Quezon City.

It all started when cops flagged him down for not wearing a helmet. Instead of stopping, he sped off, turning a simple traffic violation into a chase.

Novaliches Police Station officer-in-charge Police Major Alfredo Agbuya Jr. said the man slowed down initially but suddenly bolted, forcing officers to hop on their motorcycles and go after him. He lost balance and fell, which led to his arrest.

When they searched him, officers found a loaded gun that turned out to be unlicensed. They also discovered 54 grams of illegal drugs worth P367,200 in his bag, along with 139 fake P1,000 bills.

Further investigation showed the fake cash was being used in drug transactions. Police said he would exchange the counterfeit money during deals, fooling others involved in the trade.

The illegal drugs he carried were reportedly distributed in nearby cities like Valenzuela, Malabon, Caloocan, and Quezon City. The firearm was likely for protection during these risky deals.

Gamit niya ‘yung fake money sa katransaksyon niya sa ibang lugar. ‘Yun ang pinambabayad niya. Pinanloloko niya sa kapwa niya na gano’n din ang lakad. ‘Yung firearms siguro pangsuporta sa kanya just in case na magkagulatan ‘yung transaksyon niya. Then ‘yung illegal drugs, dini-distribute niya ‘yan sa nearby cities katulad ng Valenzuela, Malabon, Caloocan, and dito nga sa Quezon City,” Agbuya Jr. said.

The suspect had been arrested four times before for theft and frustrated murder in Malabon. Despite everything, the man denied the allegations and said he’d defend himself in court.
