Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Issues Statement on Rizal Day
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President called for the Filipinos to honor Dr. Jose Rizal by standing for what is right.
Today, the Filipinos are commemorating the death of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the national hero of the country. He is most popular for being the Filipino hero who fought against the foreign colonization through his wit and his books.
Dr. Jose Rizal is the author of the popular novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo which are part of the teachings in the Philippine curriculum in schools. Many of the characters in Dr. Jose Rizal’s novel Noli Me Tangere are even familiar to many people.
Today, the Filipinos commemorate the day when he was shot in Bagumbayan in 1896. One of the known personalities who has issued a statement is Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the Filipinos to commemorate the memory of Dr. Jose Rizal by standing for what is right. The Vice President stressed that the great challenge that the hero went through is a reminder that the light of the truth and justice can win.
“Ang napakatinding pagsubok na kanyang pinagdaanan ay nagpapaalala sa atin na kahit sa pinakamadilim na oras, ang liwanag ng katotohanan at katarungan ay maaaring manaig,” the Vice President said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte called on the Filipino people not only to stand for what is right in honor of the memory of Dr. Jose Rizal but also for a collective pursuit towards a more just, fair, and truly free country.
“Parangalan natin ang kanyang alaala sa pamamagitan ng paninindigan para sa tama at kolektibong pagsusumikap tungo sa mas makatarungan, pantay, at tunay na malayang Pilipinas,” Duterte said.
Dr. Jose Rizal is known as the hero who advocated reforms through education. He was arrested due to rebellion and was shot in Bagumbayan or now known as the Rizal Park or Luneta Park.
Every Rizal Day, countless Filipinos pay tribute and give honor to the memory of the Philippine national hero. Last year, a female artist created a “Piso” leaf art to honor Dr. Jose Rizal on his 162nd birthday.
