Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Unveils Php 50, Php 100, and Php 500 New Designs

Here’s the new look of Php 50, Php 100, and Php 500 presented by Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas.

The First Philippine Polymer Banknote (FPP) Series unveiled by Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas – “smarter, cleaner, and stronger”.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) finally presented the first Philippine polymer (FPP) banknote series in denominations of Php 50, Php 100, and Php 500. This is a significant step for the country toward modernization in terms of currency.

They will initially roll out the following denomination opting to skip the Php 200 banknote due to low demand. Despite the launch of the FPP series, the BSP noted that the existing paper banknotes will co-exist with the polymer series and will remain valid.

Polymer was pushed through for their longer lifespan, resistance to water and dirt, and improved recyclability. This aligns with the commitment of the BSP to innovate and promote environmental sustainability.

President Bongbong Marcos led the unveiling of the first Philippine polymer banknotes series in Malacañang on Thursday evening, December 19.

In his speech, the president stressed the advantages of polymer stating, “Their advanced security features make it more difficult to replicate. Notably, countries like Malaysia and Vietnam have seen significant drops in counterfeiting after switching to such polymer notes.”

To recall, the polymer series started with Php 1000 which was introduced in April 2022. Over 40 countries, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Singapore, have already adopted the use of polymer banknotes.

The new look

The old paper bills featured significant personalities in the country’s history. With the new banknotes, the country’s rich biodiversity is highlighted.

The 500-piso note features the Visayan spotted deer. This animal is found only in the rainforests of Panay and in Negros which symbolizes clarity and sharpness.

The 100-piso note has the Palawan peacock-pheasant on it. The elegance of this creature reflects the grace the country shows in challenging times from being kind to one another to looking for beauty out of the ordinary.

The 50-peso note features the Visayan leopard cat which stands for independence and agility.

“The intricate weave patterns carry the stories of families, communities, and generations who have kept these traditions alive through their hands and hard work,” he added.
