Statement of Malacañang on the Impeachment Complaint vs. VP Sara Duterte
MALACAÑANG – The Palace spoke on the impeachment complaint recently filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The filing of an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte surprised countless Filipinos although there were already talks prior to it. The country’s Vice President is currently surrounded by several issues and accusations.
Recently, 16 individuals signed an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Duterte. One of the signatories in the impeachment complaint against Duterte is Ninoy Aquino’s grandson Kiko Aquino Dee.
According to Kiko, the complainants are 16 individuals coming from different society groups who noticed the remarks of Vice Pres. Duterte as well as wants clarity on the budget spending of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Prior to the filing of an impeachment complaint signed by 16 individuals, ACT Teachers’ Party-List Representative France Castro confirmed that an impeachment plan is rolling in the lower chamber. According to her, it is set to be filed this December.
Following the statement of the ACT Teachers’ Party-List Representative, Pres. Bongbong Marcos admitted that he disagrees with the impeachment plan against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The Chief Executive sees it as something that will not benefit a single Filipino and will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Marcos also admitted that he personally sent a message conveying his stand on the issue. The Makabayan Bloc tagged the move of the President as an alleged interference on the decision of the House and a supposed violation of the separation of powers.
The party-lists’ group also described the move of Pres. Marcos as a sign of a “weak leadership”. They expressed their hope that the House leadership won’t be affected by the stand of the Chief Executive.
Following the filing of an impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Malacañang released a statement. Based on a report on GMA News, the Palace denied having a hand on the impeachment complaint.
“The impeachment complaint filed in the House of Representatives by several private citizens is clearly the complainants’ independent initiative, and its endorsement the prerogative of any Member of the House of Representatives,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.
Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña endorsed the impeachment complaint against Duterte. Based on the report, Malacañang stressed that the move is an independent initiative of the complainants and any member of the House has the right to endorse it before the lower chamber.
“The Office of the President has nothing to do with it,” Malacañang said.
Vice Pres. Duterte has yet to react on the impeachment complaint against her. Previously, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his confidence that his daughter, VP Inday Sara, can handle the issues surrounding her.
