Police Nabs Suspected Notorious Motorcycle Thief in Manila
A suspected notorious motorcycle thief in Manila was arrested by local police authorities for his illegal activities.
Surveillance footage captured the man’s suspicious behavior on Old Antipolo Street, where he initially appeared to park next to an ambulance. However, authorities revealed he had allegedly stolen the motorcycle, which belonged to a neighbor from his own barangay.
In the CCTV footage, the suspect is seen parking the stolen bike briefly before checking his surroundings, likely to avoid drawing attention. The bike’s owner discovered it was missing early in the morning and promptly reported it to the authorities.
“Nalaman nitong complainant paggising niya wala na yung kanyang motorsiklo.. Ginawa niya yung pagnanakaw ng motor ng madaling araw tapos pagdating ng hapon, ay nahuli agad siyang ng mga operatiba,” said MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines.
By the afternoon, police operatives had already identified and detained the suspect. Investigations revealed that this was not the suspect’s first time being reported for motorcycle theft.
He had been implicated in similar incidents multiple times, often using a pattern where he would steal a motorcycle, hide it temporarily, and wait for attention on the matter to subside. Police noted that, in many cases, the stolen motorcycles would be returned, leading the victims to withdraw their complaints.
However, if no one came forward to claim the bike, he would allegedly keep it.
The Manila Police District now has the suspect in custody, and he faces charges under the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016. During questioning, the suspect defended himself, stating that the motorcycle actually belonged to a relative and that it had previously been taken from them.
Interestingly, police records also indicate that aside from his involvement in motorcycle theft, the suspect has a prior history of serious offenses. He had previously been jailed in a homicide case.
“Service namin dati, matagal nang panahon, nakaligtaan dahil busy sa hanapbuhay,” the suspect added.
