What’s with CJ Opiaza gown that made Leo Almodal unhappy?
CJ OPIAZA GOWN – Filipino fashion designer Leo Almodal has this post about the gown designed by Mak Tumang.
Christine Juliane “CJ” Opiaza represented the Philippines in the recently concluded Miss Grand International 2024. She was the first runner-up while the crowned Miss Grand International 2024 is Rachel Gupta of India.
In the competition’s finals, CJ wore a gown designed by Filipino fashion designer Mak Tumang, the same designer of Catriona Gray‘s winning gown in Miss Universe 2018 where she won the title.
The gown is an embellished silver cutout dress with hints of rose gold beads. It has a teasing nice cut with the embellished adding glimmer and elegance to the overall, head-turning look.
However, another Filipino fashion designer Leo Almodal seemed unhappy over the long gown. He gave his two cents and his words reflected that he was not happy at all.
“Whoever designed CJ’s gown… First of all, I am very forgiving and easily pleased with other designer’s work but her dress is wrong in so many aspects,” Almodal said in a now-deleted post on his Facebook page.
He cited that the cut made her chest look flat when the designer could have used seamless pads. Almodal added that the “torso looked long and straight” and the curves of her body were not highlighted which, from his designer’s eyes, was because of the patterns of the lines that were not suitable.
“The design should emphasize and enhance the curves, and not the other way around,” he added. The gown was also a bit short which was why Opiaza opted to wear short heels. The rose gold belt also came out of nowhere and was out of place.
