Newly-Released Inmate Lost His Life After Being Shot by Former Witness Against Him
A newly-released inmate dies after allegedly being shot in the Baseco Compound by the former witness against him.
The newly released inmate, previously jailed for murder, was reportedly gunned down by a suspect who had testified against him in the past. The victim had been imprisoned in March for allegedly killing another man, supposedly due to a dispute over illegal drugs. The incident also took place in the Baseco Compound.
According to police, the victim had just been released the previous Friday (October 11, 2024) after reaching a settlement with the family of the person he was accused of killing.
Police believe that the victim had been receiving threats from a group, specifically from one of the men who had testified against him during his trial. On the day of the murder, the victim was spotted by the suspects while walking in Block 1, Gasangan.
“Di umano, itong ating biktima ay pinagbabantaan yung grupo partikular na po yung isang tao na tumestigo laban sa kanya noon pong siya po ay naging suspek oh… nung siya po ay ating naaresto,” MPD Homicide Section chief Police Captain Dennis Turla said.
One of the suspects allegedly handed a gun to his companion, who then shot the victim multiple times. The victim suffered numerous gunshot wounds and died at the scene.
According to the authorities, it appeared that the suspect wanted to get to the victim first before any retaliation could occur.
Following the incident, the Baseco Police Station conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the suspect who was accused of handing the gun to the shooter.
The suspect denied his involvement, claiming that he was arrested simply because he had knowledge of the incident. He insisted that another person, identified as James, was responsible for the shooting.

Authorities are now pursuing the gunman, who is expected to face murder charges. Investigations continue as police work to resolve the case and bring justice to the victim.
