Atty. Stephen David, Alice Guo’s Lawyer, Says Only Court Can Stop Client’s Candidacy
Alice Guo’s lawyer, Attorney Stephen David, spoke anew on his client’s bid for re-election as Bamban mayor.
Currently, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is accepting Certificates of Candidacy (CoCs) from the qualified candidates who want to run for public office. The next election is set on May 2025 and it includes both locan and national elections.
Surprisingly, Attorney Stephen David, Alice Guo’s lawyer, announced that the former mayor will seek re-election in Bamban. She was dismissed from her post amid the accusations linking her to the illegal POGO operations in the country.
The authorities also question the citizenship of Guo. She is even addressed in some Senate and House hearings as Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national who entered the country in 2003 and with whom she had matching fingerprints with.
According to Atty. David, the cases against Guo are pending and she was not declared as not a Filipino. The lawyer also downplayed the petition of the cancellation of his client’s Birth Certificate saying that it will take a long process.
Recently, Alice Guo’s Lawyer spoke anew on her decision to run for mayor of Bamban in the 2025 Elections. Speaking to TeleRadyo Serbisyo as per an ABS-CBN News report, Atty. Stephen David that it is hard to disqualify the former Mayor.
“Mahirap naman na i-disqualify siya dahil lang sa kanyang technicality. Paano kung siya talaga ang gusto ng tao ‘di ba?” he said.
Based on the report, Atty. David also expressed his belief that the people of Bamban must be given the chance to show their love and support for former Mayor Alice Guo. He downplayed that the claim that her client’s Birth Certificate is fake is just a claim.
According to Alice Guo’s lawyer, accusations against his client which were raised during the congressional hearings must be proven in the court. He believes that his client will be able to answer the allegations against her.
Amid the mixed reactions on the intent of the former Mayor to run for public office, the Comelec in Bamban said that they will accept the CoC of Alice Guo if she decides to run for a government post.
