Here’s what Regine Velasquez shared about the roles of a breadwinner.
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez had something to say about a child’s responsibility to earn for their family a.k.a being the breadwinner.
The role of a breadwinner includes significant emotional, financial, and physical challenges. There are financial pressures, emotional stress, lack of time, physical exhaustion, impact on personal relationships, limited leisure, and other things that this responsibility limits and constraints.
Recently, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez guested on the noontime show It’s Showtime and at that moment, she shared her thoughts about being a breadwinner as she was once playing this role.
She became the breadwinner of her family at the young age of 11. She grew up in a poor family and it was difficult by then, and since she was given the gift of voice, she used it to help her family. It lasted for a long time since she was the eldest of five children. She carried her family’s financial responsibilities and her greatest achievement was sending her siblings to school.
Having been able to do a lot for her family, she doesn’t expect the same from her kin. In her message for the breadwinners, she reminded them that the cycle has to end. It doesn’t have to be done forever.
“Natatapos siya. Hindi pwedeng hindi. You have to give yourself time to also grow na as a normal human being. Hindi pwedeng ikaw lahat ang may responsibility,” she said. The role was not forced on her but she decided to take it as she had seen their situation and she was given a special ability.
To be a breadwinner is not a child’s obligation. She stressed that it is the parent’s responsibility to raise the family and not the children.
