Lawyer of Former Mayor Alice Guo Confirms her Mayoralty Bid in Bamban
ALICE GUO – The former Mayor of Bamban will seek re-election according to her lawyer, Attorney Stephen David.
The period set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the filing of candidacy of those who intend to run for public office in 2025 is ongoing. Both local and national elections will be held on May 12, 2025.
There will be elections for councilor, mayor, vice governor, and governor. Under the national elections, there will be a senatorial poll. Amid the election season finally starting in the Philippines, there are questions about former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo.
There are questions if Guo will run for public office again. Previously, the Comelec said that they cannot reject the candidacy of Guo in case she files for the 2025 Midterm Election.
Recently, the lawyer of Alice Guo, Attorney Stephen David, confirmed that the former mayor will seek re-election in Bamban. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the lawyer said that the country should see if the people of Bamban really loves the former Mayor.
“Dapat kasi makita ng bayan kung mahal talaga siya ng Bamban. Kasi kung mahal siya, mananalo siya. Kung ayaw na sa kanya, hindi na siya mananalo,” he said.
Atty. Stephen David also spoke on the petition for the cancellation of the birth certificate of former Mayor Alice Guo. The birth certificate is one of the requirements for the election aspirants.
According to the lawyer, the cancellation of a birth certificate is a long process. He stressed that she is a Filipina and there is no decision now saying she’s not a Filipino. Based on the report, even the perpetual disqualification order of the Office of the Ombudsman cannot stop her candidacy.
“Kanya-kanyang opinyon yan eh pero siyempre iyong Comelec ang magde-decide niyan kung qualified siya kasi iyong Ombudsman ruling hindi pa final iyon,” David said.
Currently, Alice Guo is detained in Pasig City Jail. Previously, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology or BJMP requested for the medical check-up of Guo at a hospital.
