Farmer Dad Touches Many Hearts for Sharing Homegrown Vegetables w/ His Family
A farmer dad touches many hearts by sharing homegrown vegetables with his children and relatives every day.
Kristina Dizon, a netizen, feels immense gratitude for her father, Antonio Salvador Dizon for ensuring she has enough food to eat every day. Even though Kristina has her own home, her father frequently visits her, bringing fresh vegetables he grows on his farm in Quezon City.
Some of Kristina’s favorite dishes to cook with the vegetables her father provides include adobong sitaw, ginisang alugbati, and pakbet. She appreciates his efforts, especially since the prices of vegetables have increased.
“Happy naman kasi malakas pa siya at nagagawa niya pa ‘yung hilig niya and nakakatulong sa amin kasi ang mahal na ng gulay ngayon… Mine-make sure niya palagi na meron siyang dala-dala bago siya pumunta sa amin. So ‘yung Acts of Service nakakatuwa,” Kristina said.
Her father always makes sure to bring something for her every time he visits, showing his love through these acts of service.
For Antonio, these daily visits to his family are also a form of exercise. He doesn’t sell the vegetables, instead, he gives them to his children and nieces and nephews. He believes it’s better for them to receive fresh produce than to spend money on groceries. He also shares with friends who ask for help.
“Hindi po ako nagbebenta kasi iniisip ko ‘yung mga anak ko at pamangkin ko. Kaysa bumili sila ng pang sahog, ibibigay ko na lang sa kanila. Tsaka sa mga kaibigan ko na nanghihingi binibigyan ko rin,” Antonio explained.
The farmer dad rotates the vegetables he plants based on the season, taking about two to three months to grow new crops. From August to December, he focuses on rice farming. He doesn’t use fertilizers, making his produce organic and healthy.
Antonio started farming at just ten years old with his parents. During times when there were no crops, he worked as a construction worker. He feels it’s important for his family to eat nutritious food, which motivates him to continue planting vegetables for them.
