PAGASA Says Southwest Monsoon and LPA to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that a Southwest Monsoon and a Low Pressure Area will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Monday (September 16, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The Southwest Monsoon and a Low-Pressure Area will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina reported that a low-pressure area was spotted 400 kilometers east of Tuguegarao, Cagayan.

“Ngayong araw ay malaki ang tyansa na maging bagyo ang LPA na nasa silangan ng Tuguegarao, Inaasahan natin na posibleng lumapit sa ating kalupaan itong LPA na maaaring maging bagyo sa araw na ito,” Badrina said.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring monsoon rains over the northern portion of Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental. Occasional rains are also expected over the rest of MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Negros Island Region.

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro region, Soccskargen, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Luzon and Visayas; and occasional rains in the rest of Mimaropa, Western Visayas and Negros Island Region.

The monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies over the rest of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, tropical storm Pulasan was last spotted 2,215 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon as of 3:00 a.m. It has a slim chance of going near the Philippine landmass and may strengthen the southwest monsoon.

Pulasan is expected to enter the country’s vicinity on Tuesday evening (September 17) and exit PAR on Wednesday morning (September 18). It will not directly affect any part of the country, according to PAGASA.
