ALICE GUO: Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Arrested in Indonesia
ALICE GUO – Former Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, who had been on the run for over a month, was arrested in Indonesia.
On Wednesday (September 4, 2024), Alice Guo was arrested in Tangerang City, Indonesia, bringing an end to her alleged escape from the Philippines, where she is facing serious legal issues.
“I was just inform by the NBI that Guo Hua Ping (also known as Alice Guo), was arrested in Tangerang City, Jakarta, Indonesia, at 01:30 on September 4, 2024,” Senator Sherwin Gatchalian said.
Guo left the Philippines on July 18, taking a mix of land and sea routes to avoid being caught. She traveled with her siblings, eventually reaching Malaysia. After a short stay, they flew to Singapore and then continued on to Indonesia.
“She is currently in the custody of the Indonesian Police at Jatanras Mabes Polri,” the lawmaker added.
During the journey, Guo separated from her companions, her sister Shiela and business associate Cassandra Li Ong. The two were arrested earlier in Batam, Indonesia, and have since been returned to the Philippines, where they are now in custody.
Guo is accused of being involved in illegal activities, including human trafficking and money laundering. These charges are connected to her alleged support for an illegal gambling operation in her hometown of Bamban. There are also suspicions that she and her family have ties to the Golden Triangle, a region known for its criminal syndicates.
Although there were no official warrants for her arrest, Indonesian authorities detained Guo, likely for immigration violations. Her case has drawn a huge attention due to the serious nature of the charges and her dramatic escape from the Philippines.
As the legal process moves forward, she may be brought back to the Philippines to face the charges against her, increasing the investigation on her case.
