Homophobic? People online criticize a security guard for allegedly doing this.
Was the security guard being homophobic? A video of these gay students are circulating online and netizens have various reactions.
Being homophobic is a prejudice against people who are LGBTQIA+. In the modern times, many people regard this as harmful and discriminatory. They believe that one’s character is not entirely based on their gender preference.
In a video which is currently circulating online, gay students were playing in an amusement center when a security guard has reprimanded. According to their post, the one named Alexa spiked the ball which was supposed to be for playing basketball when the guard saw them.

They understood why they were reprimanded but what triggered was when his remark included the words “Bakla ka” and these two words left a sting on them. Perhaps from the tone used and the manner it was spoken that the emotions of the other one got heightened, hence the reaction displayed as seen from the recording.
The one who was more outspoken confronted the guard and told him why does he had to verbalize it.
Based on their story, the student accordingly told the guard, “Bakit kailangan mo pang idiin na bakla siya? Alam naman naming bakla kami ba’t kailangan mo pang idiin. May problema ka ba?”

Many people online expressed dismay as to how the guard reprimanded them and his choice of words. He was a tad verbally aggressive towards the students and even justified by saying that it’s true that they are gays when confronted, which was entirely unrelated to the action that they did which was not allowed in the game they were playing.
Some people encouraged them to report the guard. There were members of the LGBT who made a call out for the SOGIE Bill to be passed.
Meanwhile, others expressed that it would be better to hear the side of the security guard regarding this story before casting judgment.
Everyone, regardless of gender, age, and race, deserves respect and equal treatment. People nowadays are promoting understanding and acceptance for everyone to create a more inclusive and supportive society where people are free and where people can be whoever they want to be as long as they don’t cause harm to others.
