PNP Deploys Police to KOJC Compound to Arrest Quiboloy, Member Dies of Heart Attack Amidst Tension
Police officers marched into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City, and one Church member died of a heart attack.
Early on a Saturday morning (August 24, 2024), Hundreds of police officers from various regional offices were stationed at the entrance of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Buhangin District, Davao City
According to PNP Region XI Director Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, their plan was to forcefully enter the compound to serve multiple warrants of arrest against Quiboloy and his co-accused.
Security was tightened, and no one was allowed inside without Torre’s permission, though KOJC members were permitted to leave if they wished.
Around 4:50 a.m., the police entered the compound. PRO 11 spokesperson Police Major Catherine dela Rey confirmed that a thorough search was underway, with about 2,000 police officers deployed for the operation.
They received information that Quiboloy might be hiding within the compound, which reportedly has underground facilities. The police brought equipment to help locate hidden areas, aiming to enforce the law without causing harm.
Tensions escalated when police entered the back of the compound by breaking through a gate and using tear gas, even as discussions were ongoing at the front entrance. Attorney Israelito Torreon, one of Quiboloy’s lawyers, mentioned that two KOJC members fainted during the incident, and he later heard unconfirmed reports of two fatalities.
Unfortunately, one KOJC member, a male, was confirmed dead from a heart attack during the operation. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
As the search and warrant service continued, the question remained whether Quiboloy would surrender. His lawyers insisted on their client’s rights, but Torreon could not confirm if Quiboloy was willing to turn himself in. The tension at the KOJC compound continues as the authorities press on with their mission to arrest the controversial religious leader.
