PAGASA Says Easterlies to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that easterlies will bring scattered rains over parts of the country.

On Friday (August 23, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The easterlies will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja reported that easterlies are expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.

“Ngayong umaga asahan po ang pag-ulan sa malaking bahagi ng southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao dahil sa mga convergence o salubungan ng hangin,” said Estareja.

The southwest monsoon has weakened but will prevail again starting Friday noon. It will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

“Kung ngayong umaga, asahan ang easterlies sa eastern section ng Luzon at Visayas, eventually pagsapit ng tanghali at hanggang sa long weekend ay iiral na muli ang habagat or southwest monsoon at itong habagat ay magpapaulan pa rin sa southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” Estareja explained.

“Itong cloud clusters sa may parteng Mimaropa ay possibleng mabuo as shallow circulations or low-pressure area,” he added.

The weather agency is monitoring a possible low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility. Another Severe Tropical Storm named Shanshan was spotted outside PAR.

Shanshan was last located is 2,135 kilometers away east of Central Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 125 kph. It will not directly affect the country’s weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA.
