Suspected Criminal Group Leader Killed by Security Guard During Attempted Robbery
A security guard fought back against five robbers during an attempted robbery at a grocery store in Makati City, resulting in the death of the suspected leader of a criminal group.
According to the police, five men entered the fruit and vegetable store early Wednesday morning (August 14, 2024) and declared a holdup.
CCTV footage captured the intense moments as the robbers forced the security guard to lie face down. However, the guard managed to grab his firearm and shot one of the robbers, who was believed to be the group’s leader.
The guard’s action caused the other men to leave the establishment, leaving their injured accomplice behind. The guard then dragged the wounded suspect away from the store entrance.
Police Chief Major Arvin Rosadiño explained that the guard took advantage of the situation when he heard the sirens of a police patrol car nearby. He saw this as an opportunity to defend himself, which led to the fatal shooting of the suspect.
The robbers managed to steal two company phones from the cashier but left without taking any cash.
During the incident, the store’s workers, who were outside restocking fruits, quickly called the police. When authorities arrived, they found the suspect already dead. Further investigation revealed that the deceased was the leader of a criminal group involved in various robberies and car thefts across Metro Manila.
The suspect also had an outstanding arrest warrant for frustrated homicide issued by a Makati court.
One of the store employees who witnessed the event shared that he was held at gunpoint by one of the robbers. Moments later, he heard two gunshots. The employee expressed relief that no one else was harmed and that they all returned safely after the terrifying ordeal.
The security guard was brought to the Makati Police Headquarters for questioning. Meanwhile, the store remained closed as the owner and guard were unavailable for comment. Later that night, the Southern Police District confirmed the arrest of one of the fleeing suspects, while a hot pursuit operation is ongoing to capture the remaining three.
