Timor Leste Decided in Favor of DOJ on Arnie Teves Extradition Case
ARNIE TEVES – The camp of former Negros Oriental Congressman confirmed that they filed for appeal before the Timor Leste Court for the reversal of the extradition case decision.
For more than a year now, former Negros Oriental Congressman Teves has yet to return to the Philippines. His stay abroad started when he was tagged as the main suspect in the death the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
The Degamos and Teves’ are political rivals in the province of Negros Oriental. On March 4, 2023, Degamo who was the governor of the province then after defeating Pryde Teves in the guvernatorial race was shot in his house in Pamplona.
Men barged in the house of the Degamos in Pamplona where his wife, Janice Degamo, is the incumbent mayor. Several individuals who were at the residence of the Governor were left injured and dead by the incident.
The late former Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo was rushed to the hospital but he died. The widow of former Gov. Roel Degamo vowed to fight for justice for his death and the passing of nine (9) others.
Teves refused to go home to the Philippines amid numerous calls from the government and even his family. He cited his security as his concern in coming home to the country. He denied the accusations that he’s the man behind the death of Degamo.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated an extradition case against Teves in Timor Leste. It is in the pursuit to bring him back to the Philippines to face the multiple charges filed against him over the death of Degamo and nine others.
The DOJ won the extradition case filed against former Cong. Arnie Teves in Timor Leste. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the justice department was confident that Teves will be back in the Philippines in July.
PH officials, former and current, went to Timor Leste and testified against Teves in the extradition case. However, July has passed and the former Congressman has yet to return to the country to face the cases filed against him.
Based on the report, the camp of former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves confirmed that they filed their appeal for the reversal of the decision of the Timor Leste Court of Appeals on the extradition case. The confirmation was made by Teves’ lawyer, Attorney Ferdinand Topacio.
According to Topacio, the Prosecutor-General of Timor Leste has 30 days to respond to the appeal they have filed. Based on the report, the lawyer also said that they have filed two (2) motions before the Court.
