Following the severe flooding caused by Typhoon Carina, Senator Imee Marcos asks where is the money for flood control.
Flooding impacts Philippines after Typhoon Carina and senators, including Senator Imee Marcos, asked where the money for flood control went.
Most of the Philippine capital was covered with flood waters and several places remained underwater until Thursday, July 25. The severe flooding was caused by Typhoon Carina which has an international name Gaemi.
It did not made a landfall in the country but it enhanced the torrential monsoon rains that left many people trapped and stranded. The flood also cause widespread damage.
Spotted participating in the rescue operations was Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson. He was lauded for his concern and voluntary effort to put several to safety. For one, he has saved a family trapped due to flood and was seen carrying a child.
The damage included the lives of 13 people and over 600,000 were displaced.
Following these unfortunate incident, Philippine senators questioned where have the money for flood control went to. Billions are allotted annually for flood control projects which made Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero question the effectiveness of the measures and use of the annual budget.
In this year’s Php 5.768-trillion national budget, Php 255 billion was allocated for the DPWH’s flood control projects.
Senator Imee Marcos was also “pissed off” knowing that there are billions allocated to prevent this. She noted that the rainy season in the country has just begun and this is what happened already.
“Saan napunta yung pera? Yun ang tanong,” the vice chairman of Senate committee on finance aired. For her, this was upsetting as the Congress and the Senate did not lack in giving out funds.
