Biker Dies After Crashing Into Pole While Being Chased by Dog in Pangasinan
A biker in Pangasinan lost his life after crashing into a concrete pole while trying to escape the dog chasing him.
A 41-year-old cyclist identified as Julius Palara died after crashing into a concrete pole in Barangay Banaoang, Calasiao, Pangasinan. He was riding through the area when he was suddenly chased by a dog. The high-speed chase lasted about half a kilometer before disaster struck.
CCTV footage from the scene shows Palara in an orange shirt pedaling furiously, trying to escape the dog. The intense chase caused him to lose focus, and he failed to see the concrete pole directly in his path.
Unfortunately, the cyclist crashed into the pole, suffering severe head injuries and other trauma. Local residents found Palara lying on the ground, bleeding from his injuries. Despite their immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Hindi niya namalayan na ang poste ang papatay sa kanya. Mabilis kasi ang takbo. Sa kakatingin niya sa aso, hindi niya namalayan na sasalpok [na siya] sa poste,” the victim’s relative Arnulfo Palara said.
The incident shows the dangers of uncontrolled pets and the importance of keeping them restrained to prevent such accidents.
Authorities are investigating whether the dog involved has an owner, as this could help address potential issues of pet control in the community. Local officials have stressed the need for residents to follow ordinances related to restraining animals to avoid similar incidents in the future.
“Sana ‘yung mga aso niyo, itali niyo para hindi makapanakit ng ibang tao,” Palara said.
Cyclists and motorists are advised to be extra careful during wet conditions to prevent accidents and ensure their safety.
