Senate Pres Escudero Signs Arrest Order for Alice Guo for Contempt
ARREST ORDER FOR ALICE GUO – The Senate issued an arrest order for the suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor for contempt after she skipped the hearing.
The name of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is loud in the Philippine political arena now as well as the whole country. The suspended Mayor is linked to the illegal Philippine Overseas Gaming operations in her town. Her identity is also being questioned.
The fingerprints of Mayor Alice Guo matched with the fingerprints of Chinese national Guo Hua Ping as confirmed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The inconsistencies in her documents as well as her testimonies sparked a lot of questions on her identity.
Furthermore, the big wealth in the account of Guo is being questioned. A money laundering case was filed against Guo after millions were deposited to her multiple bank accounts although her corporations were reportedly not earning.
The latest Senate hearing set regarding the issues against Mayor Alice Guo was scheduled last July 10. However, prior to it, the camp of Guo already said that the “traumatized” Mayor will not attend the Senate hearing. Her legal counsel also said that she is physically and emotionally drained from the many accusations against her.
Senator Risa Hontiveros reminded Guo and her lawyers of their obligation to respect the laws in the country. Senate President Chiz Escudero also stressed it is not the call of the person being summoned to decide whether or not to attend the hearing. He also expressed his readiness to sign an arrest order in case it will be requested.
Following her absence at the Senate hearing, the Senate committee cited Mayor Alice Guo in contempt. It wrote a letter to the Senate President and an arrest order was expected once the letter was approved by Escudero.
Recently, based on a report of ABS-CBN News, the Senate has issued an arrest order for Mayor Alice Guo and others for contempt. It followed her absence in the Senate hearings set last June 26 and July 10.
Based on the report, the Office of the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms is ordered to serve the arrest order within 24 hours. There is also a mandate to detain the suspended Mayor for allegedly “delaying, impeding and obstructing the inquiry” set last June 26 and July 10.
