MARIS RACAL – An act of simple gratitude from actress Maris Racal quickly turned into a trending topic after netizens shared mixed opinions about her recent outreach activity.
Kapamilya star Maris Racal recently became the subject of mixed reactions from netizens after a video of her giving rice and food to jeepney drivers went viral on social media. The outreach activity was reportedly part of her celebration and thanksgiving as she marked more than a decade in the entertainment industry.
In the circulating video online, Maris could be seen personally handing out one kilogram of rice and one whole chicken to several jeepney drivers. According to the actress, the simple act of giving back was her way of showing gratitude as she celebrated her 12th year in the showbiz industry.
However, not everyone reacted positively to the initiative. Some netizens criticised the actress, claiming that the items distributed seemed insufficient, considering her long tenure in the show business and the amount she allegedly earns as a celebrity.
One basher commented, “Grabe 15yrs milyon milyon ang kinikita tas 1kg bigas at isang buong manok ang pinamigay amazing ah,” expressing disappointment over the scale of the donation.
Despite the criticism, many people came to Maris’ defence, pointing out that the intention behind the outreach activity mattered more than the amount being given. Several supporters emphasised that helping others, especially during a time when prices of goods continue to rise, should still be appreciated regardless of the size of the assistance.
Others also argued that celebrities are not obligated to give away their wealth and that any act of generosity should not immediately be subjected to harsh judgment.
