Fake MMDA Enforcers Caught on Camera Extorting Money on Osmeña Highway
EXTORTION – Fake MMDA enforcers were caught on camera extorting money from motorists along Osmeña Highway.
Recently, the Facebook page VISOR shared a video of a suspected fake MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) enforcer attempting to extort money from motorists along the intersection of Arnaiz and Osmeña Highway.
The video immediately spread like wildfire on social media and garnered various reactions from the online community it has served as a warning for Filipino motorists to remain vigilant.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared their experience. They were driving home from the office with a colleague when a motorcycle-riding individual flagged them down near the Arnaiz corner stoplight on Osmeña Highway.
Initially, they assumed the person was a genuine MMDA enforcer and pulled over. The individual accused them of beating the red light and immediately demanded a fine of P2,000. However, he suggested they could “discuss” the matter, implying a bribe.
The victim calmly responded, ‘Hindi kami beating, check natin dashcam, sir.’ As they attempted to find the footage, they noticed several red flags. The MMDA officer’s motorcycle lacked a license plate, and he was not wearing a proper uniform, raising suspicions of foul play.
The motorist began recording video footage of the encounter. They requested to see the enforcer’s identification, but he pretended not to hear them, claiming it was prohibited for them to record him.
The suspect changed his stance after the situation became tense, stating, ‘warning na lang, sir, sige na alis na kayo.’
After departing, the victim noticed the suspect lingering in the area, likely seeking other potential victims to extort money from unsuspecting motorists. The driver reported the matter to the authorities.
However, it remains unclear whether the suspected fake MMDA enforcer was apprehended.
