Elderly Woman Touches Many Hearts for Picking Leftover Rice Grains to Have Food
HEARTBREAKING STORY – An elderly woman picks leftover rice grains under the scorching sun in a rice field to have food.
Recently, the Facebook page “Negros Oriental Philippines” shared photos of an elderly woman identified as Lola Susana Balones, laboring under the scorching sun in a rice field. The post garnered various reactions from netizens.
A group on a relief mission in Barangay Fernandez, Maayon, Capiz captured the heartbreaking scene and revealed the harsh reality of Lola Susana’s daily struggle to collect leftover rice grains.
Despite her age and the intense heat, Lola Susana tirelessly works alone, picking up rice grains left behind after a flood. She hopes to dry and cook these grains for her sustenance. The grandma shows determination to gather even the smallest amount of rice to survive.
The group that encountered Lola Susana, known as Capiz Mandaragat, quickly came to her aid. They provided her with food and water, noticing that she hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for some time.
Lola Susana gratefully accepted the porridge and water, showing how horrible her situation was. Her hands and feet were muddy from working in the flooded fields, and she carried only a few stalks of rice, also covered in mud from the recent flood.
In the video, Lola Susana’s gratitude is palpable as she expresses her thanks, saying, “Maraming salamat. Sobrang dami na ng pagkain na ito.” The group gave her rice, eggs, sardines, noodles, and some money, providing her with much-needed relief.
Even in her old age, Lola Susana continues to work hard, possibly for her family or her own needs.
