Malacañang Issues Statement on INC Nationwide Peace Rally

Malacañang released a statement on the Peace Rally held by the members of Iglesia ni Cristo or INC nationwide.

More than a million members of the Iglesia ni Cristo or INC joined the Unity and Peace Rally today. The authorities counted an estimate of over 1.5 million INC members gathering at the Quirino Grandstand for the rally.

The Unity and Peace Rally of the Iglesia ni Cristo members is an expression of their support to the stand of President Bongbong Marcos over the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Three (3) impeachment complaints have been filed against Duterte.

The Vice President is being questioned over the spending of the Confidential Funds of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) as well as the CFs of the Department of Education (DepEd) when she was the education secretary. House hearings have been held but Duterte skipped most of the inquiries.

Amid their political and personal gap, Pres. Bongbong Marcos expressed an opposition on the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to Marcos Jr., it will not benefit a single Filipino and the Vice President is allegedly not a problem when looking at the larger scheme.

Pres. Marcos also stressed that impeachment moves will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. Amid the filing of the impeachment complaints against Duterte, some House members that the schedule is really a problem.

Meanwhile, recently, the House Secretary General said that the impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Duterte is ready to be submitted to the Office of the House Speaker. Velasco denied delaying the complaints.

The Iglesia ni Cristo expressed a stand supporting Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. on his call over the impeachment moves against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The INC claimed that they are for peace. The church even said that they will hold a rally.

Today, the said nationwide rally for peace was held. Malacañang released a statement saying it considers the event “as part of the national conversation we should be having as a people to bring clarity and consensus on issues that face us all and affect our future”.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin who spoke for Malacañang expressed the Palace’s belief that the rally will be peaceful. Based on the report, the Palace is also hopeful that the opinions aired at the assembly will be helpful in clarifying the issues faced by the country.

Previously, following the statement of the INC on its support for Marcos Jr., Vice Pres. Sara Duterte reacted to the INC’s stand on the impeachment complaints against her.
