Student Alone at Graduation Overwhelmed by Teachers and Friends’ Support
A male student who was alone at his graduation gets emotional and bursts into tears as the tribute song for parents began to play.
The Moving Up ceremony for Grade 10 students at a school in Bohol becomes emotional, as the tribute song for parents began to play, students stood up from their seats to approach and embrace their parents.
However, a student named Carl, stood alone, without a parent by his side. When the tribute song played, the students were supposed to stand up and hug their parents. Carl, however, remained standing next to his chair, visibly emotional and alone.
Seeing this, a teacher approached Carl and hugged him. Soon after, other teachers and his friends also came forward to embrace him.
Durian Gonzales, Carl’s mother, explained that she had to rush her youngest child to the hospital on the eve of the Moving Up ceremony, which is why she couldn’t accompany Carl to the event. Carl’s parents are also separated.
“Siyempre po masakit po sa loob [ko], masakit sa damdamin kasi matagal kong hinintay ‘yon,” said Durian.
“Naawa ako sa anak ko, lalo nu’ng napanood ko yung video. Parang nadurog yung damdamin ko,” she added.
Carl’s aunts and grandmother had planned to attend the graduation, but heavy rain and a flat tire on their motorcycle prevented them from making it. He understood the situation but couldn’t help feeling sad during that moment, especially when the tribute song for parents played.
“Iniintindi ko po ang aking ina kasi mahal na mahal ko po siya, alam ko naman na importante talaga yung bunsong kapatid ko,” Carl said.

The student received unexpected hugs from his teachers and classmates, providing a comforting surprise during an otherwise difficult moment. After the ceremony, Carl’s mother expressed her gratitude to those who showed kindness to her son.
Even though Carl was alone at the school, he realized that he was not truly alone. The support from his teachers and friends demonstrated that he was surrounded by a caring community.
