Man Arrested in Caloocan After Causing Scene Over Smoking Issue
A man was arrested in Caloocan City after causing a scene when confronted about smoking in public.
The suspect faces multiple complaints following his outburst during the arrest. Even while handcuffed at the Caloocan Police Sub-station 12, the man continued shouting and cursing, refusing to calm down despite efforts from his companions.
The drunken man was taken to the station, where he faces several charges including physical injuries, direct assault, and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority.
Caloocan Police Sub-station 12 head Police Major Edsel Ibasco said that they were conducting a checkpoint when one police officer noticed the suspect violating the smoking ban in public places. The law offender became hostile and started attacking the cops as he was about to receive a violation ticket.
“Nagka-conduct tayo ng checkpoint nang mga panahon na iyon nang mapansin ito ng isang pulis natin. Nang titiketan sana sa paglabag sa smoking in public place, naging hostile siya ang nag-umpisa na ‘yung pananakit sa mga pulis,” Ibasco said.
The police authorities discovered that the 29-year-old man had an outstanding warrant for arrest on a rape charge. This complaint was filed in April 2022, with the complainant being a minor relative of his family.
The man admitted to being drunk and explained that police officers should have given him a ticket instead of starting with handcuffs.
“Kaya naman ako nakapagsalita nang ganon, ng pangit sa kanila, kasi hindi naman po makatarungan ang ginawa sa akin. Dapat tiket eh ang bungad ng mga otoridad ay posas,” the suspect explained.
